Establishment of the 5th Presidential Committee for the Hub City of Asian Culture

- 15 domestic and international professionals for culture and arts are newly appointed
   as civilian committee members -




 

The 5th Presidential Committee for the Hub City of Asian Culture has launched with newly appointed 15 civilian committee members accredited by Korean President Lee Myung-bak on the date of 8 December 2012. Mr. Ji Gon-gil, former director of the national museum of Korea, and Prof. Park Yangwoo inaugurated as the Chairman and the Vice-chairman alternatively of the committee for two- year term until 7 December 2014.

The special law for establishment of the Hub City of Asian Culture stipulates that the Presidential Committee, top legislative entity with the authority of designing comprehensive directions of the Hub City of Asian Culture establishment plans, be made up both of ex officio members and civilian appointed members. In the case of the 5th Committee, 28 members in total are affiliated to the Committee that consists of 13 ex officio members along with the Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and 15 civilian appointed members.

The 5th committee differentiated itself with previous ones by accommodating 5 international professionals for culture and arts from Asian and the Pacific countries for the first time. The committee expects these international professionals working in culture and arts fields such as traditional music, storytelling, visual arts, fine arts, media and cultural exchanges will contribute much in favor of reflecting various Asian values for the Hub City of Asian Culture establishment project.

The international Committee members are Mr. Sam-ang Sam (Cambodia, professor at Pannasastra University), Mr. Tang Jian Ping (China, professor at Central Music Academy), Mr. Hideki Hayashida(Japan, advisor of Suntory Arts Foundation), Mr. Abdyldazhan Akmataliev(Kyrgyzstan, head of the department of language and literature at Kyrgyzs Science Academy), Ms. Sarah Gardener(Australia, Executive Director of IFACCA)
