The Asian Culture Complex
Asian Arts Theatre
2012 Project Development Initiative

Office for Hub City of Asian Culture in Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism seeks to continue to strengthen the collaborative relationship with wide range of creative artists from all around the world. Project Development Initiative and Asian Arts Theatre Residency have been presented annually since 2010 as an effort to build artistic environments for the Asian Arts Theatre, scheduled to open in 2014.

Asian Arts Theatre as a main facility at the Asian Culture Complex pursues to provide an environment for artists and producers to be more imaginative in contemporary arts forms and to enrich their ideas through utilizing tremendous cultural resources of Asia. It seeks to contribute to the transformative environment by gaining exposure to new ideas, and various artistic and cultural expressions. Through ruminating cultural values and discovering collaborative works of progressive artists, its aim is to stimulate the significance and development of contemporary performing arts with a special emphasis on Asian culture to achieve artistic excellence.

Asian Arts Theatre is accepting proposals from ideas to all phases of a project which are contemporary performing art-based works that reflect or embody Asian values, cultures and issues. The selected outstanding projects will be given a financial support to develop their work further and will be invited to participate in the Asian Arts Theatre Residency. Also, these projects have possibility of commission to complete their work and premier at the Asian Arts Theatre.

We hope that 2012 Project Development Initiative and Asian Arts Theatre Residency function as a platform for artists where they can develop their works and openly share their ideas, and wish to grow into <Artists’ Residency Festival> in near future.
