opening in 2014 and its succeeding paths.

Asian Arts Theatre pursues to provide an environment for artists to be more creative in
contemporary art forms and to enrich their ideas through utilizing tremendous cultural resources
of Asia. It seeks to contribute to the transformative environment by gaining exposure to new
ideas, and various artistic and cultural expressions. Through ruminating cultural values and
discovering collaborative works of progressive artists, its aim is to stimulate the significance and
development of contemporary performing arts with a special emphasis on Asian culture to
achieve aesthetic excellence.

The 1st Project Development Initiative in 2010 received 71 proposals from 13 countries which have
been evaluated by panels comprised of 15 distinguished professionals in various artistic disciplines.
Three selected projects received financial support and were invited to Gwangju to share their
project development process through collaborative workshop with their partners and to further
develop their project at the co-sketch and pitch session. This year, two of these projects have
been given further financial support to premier their work during the co-sketch and pitch session
from August 28th to September 3rd, 2011.

Asian Arts Theatre is accepting proposals from ideas to all phases of a project which are
contemporary performing art-based works that reflect or embody Asian values, cultures and issues.
The selected outstanding projects will be given a financial support to develop their work further
and to participate in the co-sketch and pitch session. Also, these projects have possibility of
commission to complete their work and premier at the Asian Arts Theatre.
