Hub City of Asian Culture GWANGJU: \"Asia\'s Cultural Window to the World\"
Not a few countries seem to agree that culture will be a major growth engine for this century; many governments all over the world are seeking for ways of national development based on culture. Korea is not an exception. Particularly in Korea, public demand for the higher quality of life has been swelling as the national per capita income nears 20,000 dollars. Hub City of Asian Culture GWANGJU(HCAC) project responds well to such global trend and domestic demand. As the biggest ever government-initiated culture project in Korea, HCAC was embarked aiming to provide a new place to acknowledge and share the various cultures and their values of Asia as well as to promote cultural exchanges with various nations of Asia and the world. Hub City\'s Vision & Master Plan Established
The Hub City of Asian Culture project began with the 2002 Presidential campaign pledge of President Roh who, as a candidate, promised to develop Gwangju into a cultural hub of Asia. The Presidential Committee for the project was launched in March 2004 to give life to his pledge. Two years after the Preliminary Master Plan was drawn in 2005, the Master Plan for a Hub City of Asian Culture was announced public on October 8, 2007. ........(more)
Asian Culture Complex: A Playground for the Diversity of Asian Cultures
With the purchase of its building site made, the Asian Culture Complex is waiting for the ground-breaking in May 2008. The construction is planned to be completed in the first half of 2012. A multi-purpose, multi-functional cultural facility capable of concurrent accommodation of exhibition, performance, education, research and creation, the ACC is hoped to function as a playground where the art and culture people of Asia get joined together with the Gwangju citizens, re-discover the values of Asian cultures, and refine the diversity of Asian cultures with re-creation.
